Omega Pre-Moon Speedmaster 145.022-69
Omega Pre-Moon Speedmaster 145.022-69
The Omega Speedmaster is one of the most important watches of all time. First releasing in 1957, it didn't reach legendary status until the Moon landing in 1969, which I won't elaborate on as you can find many articles covering that much more extensively. What is cool about this example is that it actually predates the Moon landing. This example from 1969 was produced mere months before the Moon landing happened, making it one of the very few 145.022 references that wasn't the transitional model (from 1968), and didn't have a Moon-themed case back. This is quite desirable, as pre-Moon landing models mostly had the 321 caliber, whereas the 145.022 reference featured its successor, the 861, which is the base for today's caliber 3861 used in the modern Moonwatch.
This example has beautiful patina, with cream colored tritium and a wonderfully worn acrylic crystal that has never been polished. The case is in good shape, with the only major sign of wear being a scratch on the case back. The bezel has several deeper scratches. Other key differences of the 1969 model are the DON (Dot-over-ninety) on the bezel, as well as the stepped subdials.
The bracelet paired to this watch comes from an early 2000s Speedmaster Reduced with different end links to fit this watch (1469/312). Since the bracelet is not original to this watch, we would sell them separately if desired.
Overall, this is a highly sought after example of an already sought after watch, ready to shine in any collection.
